Students, faculty and staff were informed Nov. 11, 2015, that the college had ceased registering new students. Unlike several other schools that shut their doors without heads up, leaving their students stuck, Westwood officers have stated they’re going to keep on training lessons for the 600 pupils currently enrolled in its lessons.

14 Westwood grounds owned and operated by Denver-based Alta Schools. All the Westwood grounds – which possess a combined enrollment of 6,500 pupils, in accordance with the business web site — are likewise impacted. You’ll find four campuses in California, others being in Anaheim, Torrance and La. There are additionally Westwood websites in Il, Virginia and Georgia, the business has online software too. Merely the business’s Red Stone College, in Broomfield, Colorado, may stay available.

Quick Facts:

owned by Alta Colleges Inc

Founded 1953 in Denver, Colorado

was an American for-profit institution of higher learning

14 campus locations in five states and online learning options

Since its inception in 1986, Westwood has graduated more than 37,000 students.

The college closed in March 2016

Today, you will find an e-mail recently delivered to present students informing them, they have to move by Feb 19.

“…we will introduce you to the partner schools that will assist you in completing your education and you will have full opportunity to explore what benefits each may offer to you,” an email says.

Westwood states grounds will close by March 8, and we have also realized from an auction site that on March 2 the college will sell assets at its O’Hare university from 15 campuses throughout the country.

In 2012, Westwood resolved together with the attorney-general of Colorado for $4.5 million for misleading advertising. In 2009, the university agreed to some $7 million settlement with the U.S. Department of justice-related to a criticism about submitting bogus claims for federal student assistance.

Westwood issued this statement:

“We are proud of our tradition dating back to 1953 of helping nearly 40,000 graduates reach their education and career goals. Westwood College has been through an extended period of declining enrollments due to market shifts and changes in the regulatory environment. On November 11, 2015, Westwood College announced its decision to discontinue all new student enrollments. Since making that announcement, the College has been focused on providing quality education and campus services to our students and developing a transition plan for students to complete their education. After identifying and contracting with a strong group of partner schools that will provide options for students to complete their education, Westwood has decided that the January 2016 Term will be the last term taught at Westwood College. Westwood will have graduated an additional 1,000 students in the December 2015 and January 2016 terms, and 2,500 students will complete their degrees with one of the partner schools.”

I have a parent-plus loan that was taken out so my daughter could attend Westwood College. She graduated with a Paralegal certificate, but has not been able to find a job in her field. If I am eligible for forgiveness of this loan, it would be a huge relief to both my daughter and I.

I need some help in trying to find someone to help me with a problem one of my clients has. He attended Westwood College under the Trade Adjustment Assistance Act and all the costs relative to his training was paid by TAA. He graduated in March 2015. In December 2015 he started getting notices from Navient saying that he was past due on a loan payment. Funny thing is he never took out a student loan. Now he is trying to purchase a house and this loan keeps coming up on the credit report and I am having no luck trying to contact Navient to attempt to get this straightened out. This form came up during my google search to try to find a way to contact Westwood. Is there any one there that can offer assistance or at least provide me with some kind of contact information as a starting point.

Hello, I graduated from Westwood back in 2010 and I am still unable to get a job in the Criminal Justice field. I have both a federal and private loan which I was forced to get while attending. If you can provide me with any information i would appreciate it.

Hello, I went to Westwood and graduated in 2012. In the interim of me attending school I transferred to one campus from another and they told me it was like starting a new school. Recently I received a letter in the mail with some forms to fill out because I may be eligible for loan forgiveness. Is there any type of class action suit in Georgia for this.

I need help with a fraudulent loan taken out by Westwood College. I attended school there for 1 month in 2008. I was told my Montgomery GI Bill and Illinois Veterans Grant would cover my tuition, by my academic advisor. After the 1st month, I received a bill for $2,000-$3,000. I called and disputed it, they investigated and ruled in my favor. I was told my balance was $0 and I never attended school there again. 8 years later I get a letter in the mail saying I out $5,000+ for a student loan from this college. The only thing I can think of is they took out a loan under my name and used it to pay off that first month. I would never in my life get a student loan, because I have the IVG and MGIB. (I still have both) They pay me to go to school, so no way I’d ever take out a loan. How do I get rid of this now?
I called the Dept. of Education, they transferred me to the debt collector, and the debt collector told me to call the college. Well the college is closed. Help!!

Hi. I have around $11,000 of private loans that I need help with. I was in the animation program and they changed it part way through my degree to be in classroom only. This left me without being able to finish school. I am concerned with the private portion, I have already been granted some relief on the federal portion. Can you help?

I attended this school in pursuit of a business management degree. In the year and a half of my attendance, I never took ONE single course related to business management. When I questioned why I was forced to take computer programming classes, I was told this was part of the degree curriculum. I transferred to another college pursuing the same degree only to find I could NOT transfer ANY of those courses. The amount of money they are requesting I pay back, even AFTER using my MGIBill, is extraordinary considering I could not use any of the classes for my degree. In fact, those classes were irrelevant to my degree. How can I dispute those charges?

I graduated in 2001 with a degree in computer science. Looking for a job in the field for two years I was not able to obtain one. Westwood had student job placement program but that only turned up intern positions non paying and minimum wage offers. I searched for 2 years for a job and I did not find one.I had to work 2 jobs just to,pay off the loans and move back with my parents. Would I be eligible for any reimbursement?

    Please let me know
    Thank you

    Dear Sir or Ma’am,

I am a former student of the Chicago O’Hare Campus. I am a United States Military Veteran and chose to use the last of my Post 9-11 GI Bill for my medical assisting diploma that left the government about $40,000 in debt now. I am a little upset about that just knowing that what it cost me for one year I could have had my Bachelors in Nursing paid for. I have the VA looking into this now as well. I need to know what steps need to be assessed for the next step of recovery of my Government Loans. Please respond ASAP as this is a very urgent matter.
