A "Hocus Pocus" sequel is the only thing that millennials have been waiting for longer than affordable housing. The 1993 Disney film, which had a Halloween theme, enraged critics and won over moviegoers, elevating it to cult status thirty years after its release.

Finally, "Hocus Pocus 2" has debuted with a straight-to-VHS—excuse me, exclusive Disney Plus streaming premiere—this past Friday.

The original movie centers on three young characters who band together to combat the hilarious Sanderson sisters (Kathy Najib, Bette Midler, and Sarah Jessica Parker), who are brought back to life by mistake

The witches are engaged in a time-sensitive quest for immortality, one that naturally involves singing numbers, a virgin, and children's souls.

It was like an ugly duckling, as Midler told People Magazine in a feature honoring the film's 25th anniversary. A little organism that no one thought was capable of anything has evolved into a swan. It's just taken flight after discovering its wings. I believe it's wonderful.

In "Hocus Pocus 2," Midler, Najimy, and Parker return to their roles as Winifred, Mary, and Sarah Sanderson, respectively. Doug Jones, who you may remember from "The Shape of Water" or "Hellboy" as the fish guy, also makes a reappearance as the amiable zombie Billy Butcherson.

Max (Omri Katz), her younger sister Dani (Thora Birch), his crush Allison (Vinessa Shaw), and a cursed boy-turned-cat named Thackeray Bins are the main characters of "Hocus Pocus" (Sean Murray). None of those characters appear in the sequel, despite the fact that the audience fell in love with them over 30 years ago, thanks in large part to Max's extremely floppy hair.

According to director Anne Fletcher, she wanted to include the full original ensemble, but their presence didn't match the plot. They might be in the background, people would say, and I'd be like, really? Are you going to ignore the actors from the previous movie and be content? "You won't be satisfied; instead, you'll be angry," she warned.
